Please tell us a few words about the new release, about the music on it as a whole or a few words on each track in part. How are you happy with the final release?
David: Our boldly titled album Heavy Metal was originally released in December 2013 on our own account. Later on we got support from the great guys in Kernkraftrtitter Records and Infernö Records to do a re-release in February 2015 to get the album out there! After our previous release Don't Touch While Running (2011), we really took some time to work on the band's concept, get it focused and most importantly write the best songs that we possible could. We went to record it in the Overlodge Recording Studios with Martin Schnella, the amazing dude who really helped us achieve the sound we were going for! For me personally, Thunder Child is the quintessence of what we wanted to do with this album - Heavy Metal in your face, no questions asked! The rest of the album kinda circles around that idea. Strike The Earth has a bit more of an epic tone to it. Hellspawn is fast, true the german Speed Metal legends. In all the songs we try to focus on the strong melodies, no matter what direction the song takes.
How would you describe/label the music on it? Does it sounds like anything we might have heard before?
Lord: With an album titled Heavy Metal the question of the genre is pretty easy to answer. It's all smooth Jazz, extended flute and harmonica solos obviously. As for bands you could compare it to we'd go for most of the NWOBHM, especially acts like Angel Witch and Tokyo Blade. There is a healthy dose of America in there though, so fans of Warlord, Manila Road and Riot are sure to find something they like as well.
As a German band we can't really deny our heritage either and we have been compared to early Blind Guardian and Helloween repeatedly.
Where was it recorded and how much time did it take you to record it? Any interesting stories from the recording/producing the material?
Lord: We recorded the album at Overlodge Recording Studios in Oberhütte. It was produced and engineered by Martin Schnella of "Flaming Row" fame. We did all the studio work in about a week, with a few additional recordings at a later time. As with any production we were plagued by frequent unfunny inside-jokes, not nearly enough sleep and an overabundance of alcohol combined with a lack of food (even though there was a great schnitzel place nearby). Any other escapades were documented and can be viewed in the form of a video diary over at https://www.youtube.com/BoozeControlOfficial
What can you tell us about the cover artwork? Is there a link between the artwork and the lyrics? What are the topics of your lyrics?
David: The artwork was done by Dimitar Nikolov, an insanely talented painter who really did a great job there! The idea for the artwork, pretty much along with the title, was born out of alcohol-fueled rejection of cognitive effort - it's Heavy Metal, so we need some giant war machines and a hot girl and stuff! Later I was asking me the same question - who is that girl, why is she facing the mecha and why has the whole world gone to shit? I suggest you go read War Of The Worlds by H. G. Wells (which by the way was the inspiration for Thunder Child) and let your thoughts linger through the chapter 'The Man on Putney Hill'. You will find your answers there.
What do you expect to gain through this release? What are the band's aims at the moment?
Mike: Fame. Money. Women. We aim to be the very best, like no one ever was. Our music is our very test, to make it is our cause. We'll travel across the land, rockin' far and wide. Each song to understand, the metal that's inside.
David: Wait? Who are you anyway? You are not even in the band!
Is there a special format the material is released in? Or is it released in multiple formats? How many copies were pressed?
Jendrik: We pressed 1000 jewel case CDs including a 12 page booklet. The release is also available as digital download everywhere.
Where and how will you promote this new release?
Steffen: We are about to promote it through reviews in magazines, websites, blogs and mainly live on the road. We will play shows, shows and even more shows to bring our music to the masses. Our label Kernkraftritter Records and our french promotion partner Infernö Records are about to bring a lot of press promotion, so we will be able to play more locations and cover a larger area all over Europe. If you like our music und want to help us, spread the word an tell all your Heavy Metal Friends about it!
Lord: We also go the usual routes of having a Facebook page, a youtube channel etc. so drop us a like, follow us, subscribe and whatnot.
Where can we order it from?
Jendrik: The CD can be ordered directly on our labels' website http://kernkraftritter-records.de/product_info.php?info=p55.
