Please tell us a few words about the new release, about the music on it as a whole or a few words on each track in part. How are you happy with the final release?
I think the album turned out great. We managed to capture the mood I hoped, and the melodies shine through how I wanted. It’s pretty extreme music, so it can be hard to emphasize melodies, but with some slower parts and fun instruments, it went pretty well!
How would you describe/label the music on it? Does it sound like anything we might have heard before?
It might not be totally unique music, but we don't sound like anyone I know of at least. I feel like we are in the middle of old school and modern sounds. I think extreme metal is a nice broad term that can apply to Efreeti.
Where was it recorded and how much time did it take you to record it? Any interesting stories from the recording/producing the material?
Most tracks were recorded in my living room or rehearsal space. Drums were done in a pro studio in Finland. Most of it was recorded over about half a year, but the last tracks were in place very close to release. The details always take time!
What can you tell us about the cover artwork? Is there a link between the artwork and the lyrics? What are the topics of your lyrics?
There is a strong link between art and lyrics. The character on the cover is described in the song Man of Sand. The themes in the lyrics varies a lot. Some of them are political, a lot are fictional stories based on some Efreeti lore.
What do you expect to gain through this release? What are the band's aims at the moment?
I have some personal long-term goals, but as a band, I hope we are able to book some shows soon. With a drummer in Finland, me in Norway, and a very busy bassist, it can be difficult to arrange on our own, and few promoters or venues want to pay for those flight tickets.
Is there a special format the material is released in? Or is it released in multiple formats? How many copies were pressed?
At the moment we have 50 CDs pressed, that’s all! Physical sales have been abysmal, but streams are doing great.
Where and how will you promote this new release?
With the help of Distrolution we are sending out press releases and interviews like these pretty frequently. I still have some tricks up my sleeve that people hopefully will enjoy!
