Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Epi-Demic Began in 2005, that’s when the lineup was finalized. Before that Aaron (drums) and Adam(guitar/Vocals)were jamming together and creating songs. I joined very shortly after and we began to write songs in the style of DRI, early napalm death. These songs would become the material that is on our demo “The Plague Begins” , we played many shows in the years to follow in Calgary and throughout Canada, released a 2011 full length entitled “Madness” and played several fests. We joined forces with Solanum from Winnipeg, Canada and decided to release a split, which would later materialize as “PASSAGES TO LUNACY”
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Our style is extremely aggressive, furiously played and can often abruptly change in tempo when you least expect it and leave you scratching your malformed skull!!!!!!! We love Excel, Crumbsuckers, Broken Bones, English Dogs, Ludichrist and the diversity these bands display directly influences our sound.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because we are delivering a truly unique sound, never following trends and creating music that is full of attitude, while being played very proficiently!!!our music is rolling chaos!!!!
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We released a demo in 2006 called “The Plague Begins” which we gave out for free oftentimes, self producing it on CDR. We still play many of the songs on this demo live!!!! The demo was well liked but did not get enough circulation unfortunately!!! In 2011 we released our first full length independently, entitled “Madness” which got good reviews and we are extremely proud of. We just dropped a split with SOLANUM entitled “Passages to Lunacy” which is our most powerful material, available now from HPGD productions.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We have played numerous live shows, we enjoy it very much, but since we have been playing together for ten years we limit the amount of local shows we play to one or two a year, instead focusing on touring. Seeing us live represents our sound the best!!!
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
That we are creating aggressive, chaotic, proficiently played music that does not nod to the current trends in metal or punk and instead pushes forward and leaves the listener confounded. We are not political, we are firmly grounded in real life and the horrors that entail that.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Planning our next tour to the east coast of Canada and the US, with Solanum, and continue writing songs for another album in the future. Support the underground
