Please tell us a few words about the new release, about the music on it as a whole or a few words on each track in part. How are you happy with the final release?
Gnosis: Never Follow the Light Is a Poignant Passage through the stages of Enlightenment and Ascension. Each song has its own symbol and is comparable to the metamorphic phases of a Butterfly or in a more morbid sense the five stages of grief. This album leaves room for the listener to use perception as a tool while reaching a common result. Sonically Gnosis lacks the ability to just belong or lump it self in a collective genre which can attest to I am the Trireme's existing struggle with just blending into a scene or Live Lineup. For IATT this album holds the symbol of constant suffocation and deprivation of carrying out a normal life. For two years our lives have been consumed by this Album.
How would you describe/label the music on it? Does it sounds like anything we might have heard before?
Gnosis is a blend of sub genres within Extreme Metal. You have songs like Metre fin a Cette that resemble the more progressive side of extreme metal with its complex chords. Then you have the grim sound of Thy Sombering Light that summons the Suicidal Depressive side of Black Metal. To the Melodic Death Metal influence in the two tracks Grey Fields of Ash and Basking in the Essence of my Sorrow. Then you have a more Black and Roll sound when you listen to A Sullen Reflection of Purity. Tamerlane Chapter 2 is engulfed by the Death/Doom side. While Trusty Noose and Tamerlane Chapter 1 unleash a more Raw and Melodic side of Black Metal. Gnosis blends all facets of Extreme Metal without blatantly jumping all over the place.
Where was it recorded and how much time did it take you to record it? Any interesting stories from the recording/producing the material?
The Drum portion of Gnosis was recorded at 0X1 Studios in Cherry Hill Nj by Jason Ruch. The rest of the album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Dungeon Audio by our Bassist Jimmy Jenca. Gnosis took a year to record due the hectic scheduling with our bassist Jim who was juggling Full time schooling work and IATT. But the end result was fulfilling. There isn't one story that sticks out more than the other, but I will mention that there was a fair share of completely snapping on each other, but it was in the moment and passion for creating the best possible album.
What can you tell us about the cover artwork? Is there a link between the artwork and the lyrics? What are the topics of your lyrics?
The album cover is connected to lyrics through the album title Gnosis: Never Follow the Light. The Album Artwork was created by our guitarist Alec Pezzano through his company Vital Signs Media.
The lyrics in Gnosis venture through the stages of enlightenment with an end result of Ascension. The most prevalent topic that Gnosis covers is a struggle from within and the process of killing off an omen that destroys.
What do you expect to gain through this release? What are the band's aims at the moment?
As a Band of course we would like to have our craft heard and for it to gain exposure we would really like for our music to have the opportunity to reach listeners abroad. Personally I want to make an impact in someone's life I want our listeners to be able to relate in any facet. I feel that the music we write is real life, come on this isn't mall pop, life isnt strawberry hills forever and most people aren't popping crisp and riding around in expensive whips. Our music is for people who dare to really listen. You need more than a set of ears to do that.
