Review:
Built on the ashes and probably on the same tracks as Koza Dereza, a one man band active between 2016 and 2019, Merzotna Potvora (Abominable Monster according to Google Translate) is still that one man, Oleksa Vypaskuden, taking care of all compositions, lyrics and instruments, joined now by a vocalist, Kosta Slothston, so we're dealing here with a duo and their debut EP. 4 tracks plus an instrumental ambient intro, all clocking for a bit over 20 minutes of playing time and delivering fast paced Thrash Black Metal. The first thing that strikes you is the profoundly synthetic sound of the guitars and drums, and if for the drums it's understandable, nowadays a ton of bands use drum-machine and not many know how to make it sound natural, for the guitar sound I have no explanation. It sounds like the guitars Russian Astarium traditionally uses, totally synthetic, like done on PC completely... Not many can pass over such a production, especially the Thrash Black Metal audience who's into much more traditional, organic sounds, but if you think you won't be disturbed by it, I'd say you should try this band's EP out, it has some really good compositions with catchy repetitive but inspired riffs, infectious speed, excellent long, spacey solos and overall a cool devilish attitude. The vocalist seems to be a good choice as he's delivering an excellent performance here and much of that devilish attitude I mentioned before is due to his uncompromising, rough vocal tone. All in all this is a pretty recommended release if you're not easily turned off by a synthetic sound.
