Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We are what we’ve always been: a bunch of dudes that love to have fun and play/create music. Each of us brings our own style to the table, which results in what you hear in your speakers and on the stage.
Myself and Boulay are the song-writing power house of the band, we get together weekly and hash out ideas and riiffs, build general structures, and pre-prod material for the rest of the dudes to hear Fuzz brings his badass thrash-meets-blues solo’s to the mix, giving that nice added touch, and getting the fist pumping in the air Jay comes in and gives life to the tunes, essentially choosing which parts of the riffs will be accentuated by fast blast beats or slick grooves. And Yolin comes in and writes the lyrics, and puts the final touch on the tune.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We’re a blend of thrash and death metal, with sprinkles of a ton of other stuff, from sludge to punk, in between. Our goal is to have the crowd band their head, and to see blood in the mosh pit. If people aren’t thrashing, we aren’t doing our job right.
For influences we have the obvious ones like Kreator, Sodom, Slayer, Cannibal Corspe, Morbid Angel, etc., and then everyone has their own unique influences like Entombed or Fuck the Facts
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
The sound, song, and general brutality quality are all there. If you’re a metal fan, you can probably relate to at least one of the songs on the new album (14 tracks, after all). We don’t over-complicate things, and we also don’t underperform.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We’ve been really lucky to have been picked up by a number of online mags, blogs and even some print articles. Most recently we were picked up in Germany’s Metal Glory Magazine, which was beyond fucking cool!
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
We play live, and we love doing it. Our shows are half musical performance, and half party, and that goes for fans and the band alike. We’re here to rock out and have fun, just like everyone else at the show
What sould labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We can deliver the merchandise. We put the necessary investment in what we do, from taking the time to craft memorable songs, to playing each tune again and again so that we can deliver them live with uncompromising precision. We’re ready to move around and extend our exposure, and from what we’ve been hearing in the blog and mag world, the people are ready for us too!
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Right now our focus is on the US and the East Coast of Canada. We’re also working on the next album already, putting together song ideas and hashing them out in the jam spot. If there’s one thing that’s true about Mortor, it’s that we never fucking stop.
Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to both records at www.mortor.bandcamp.com, and you can get in touch with us on Facebook and all those other social networks.
