Title: Awaken To A Different Sun
Label: Art Gates Records
Style: Melodic Groove Metal
Man, such a cool surprise from the States namely this San Francisco based quintet which has been around in one form or another since 1998 and under the current moniker since 2005, but I've only stumbled upon it now. A band that reminds me of the end '90's - beginning of the '00's when Metal was starting to add groove, melodic and alternative influences in the same pot, or better said when they begun to have international success with this melting pot of styles and influences. Mudface is one fo those bands that brings in influences from basically wherever they feel like, and the end result is a melodic, groovy, catchy and totally American sounding kind of Metal, one that would have no problems being played on MTV or the likes, that's why I'm surprised to see them still "lurking" in the underground after so many years of activity. Anyway, although this is not exactly on our covered territory I'd say Mudface did a good job on this new EP of theirs (5 tracks in a bit over 20 minutes of playing time), a professionally produced, memorable and honest sounding material fit for fans of bands like Marilyn Manson, Static-X, Mudvayne, or Ill Nino but with a bit "traditional" more Metal on the sides. I see this joint venture between them and Art Gates a serious opportunity for both parts, hope they'll have the chance to push it as much as possible.
