Review:
For my shame this is the first time I hear about Spanish band Muert although they've been around since 2010 and have released 3 albums prior to this one, two of them on pretty solid labels, Hammerheart and Self Mutilation Services, but somehow they have never been on my radar. Ebola and Guayota from the band Cryfemal are the only two original members in Muert, and although for the recording of this new album in 2019 the band was a trio including bassist Satur, the latter left in 2020. Haeresis is made of 8 compositions clocking a bit over 37 minutes and delivering what is one of the most brutal, bestial sounding Black Metal material ever released by Belgian label Immortal Frost Productions, but what I like most about it is the compositions have depth and a certain variety although at first sight (audition) they might seem straight-forward brutality and that's all. There's plenty of dirty Thrash Metal thrown inthere, and even some unexpected slower and more atmospheric passages (few indeed) that break the monotony and increase the bleakness, but again, the overall impression is of an uncompromising, bestial, relentless, fanatic music lead by a totally demented vocalist that screams his lungs out the whole time. The lyrics are in Spanish and printed inside the 12 pages booklet, and they seem interesting enough, dealing with witches, myths and actual historical facts from what I can tell. Fans of Bestial Black Metal or War Metal, however you want to call it, will find this at least interesting for sure!
