Band: NO LIFE CODE
Title: Maldoror's Metamorphosis
Label: Death Portal Studio / UKEM Records / Satanath
Style: Black Metal
Duo from Spain founded in 2020 already presenting here their debut album, an 8 tracks effort clocking a bit over half an hour of playing time. The music is fast and furious Black Metal from start to finish, with some occasional mid-tempo passages to spice things up, but unfortunately not enough to prove the band is capable of something spectacular. Actually the whole album is quite monotonous, without original elements to make it stand out from the ton of similar releases being spawned all the time all over. Maybe the production, the fact that the lead guitar is so hidden behind the riffs and drumming, is the most important problem of this album, because if you listen closely you will hear a lead guitar that does basically what the lead guitar does in Marduk, it gives individuality and direction to each of the tracks. The good parts of this album (because don't get me wrong, this is not a bad album, it only lacks something of its own, something to impress the listener with) are the actual compositions that give the impression this duo is capable of way better things, the fast parts are really good but way too few to change the overall impression. The vocals have the right hateful tone needed for this music, they just need more versatility, more variety, and we've got a winner here. This album is recommended if you're in for a serious wall of Black Metal riffing, a sick, decaying layer of hoarse vocals, and an intense and heavy (even brutal at times) rhythm section, but for something else I believe we'll have to wait for the band's next opus.
