Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
PICTURE ANN was conceived back in early 2009 by me, i.e. J.N. I am the only member of the entity and that will probably never change. Simply put, it is my own musical playground of sorts where I do whatever I want to do, musically and lyrically speaking. I composed and recorded a handful of songs in the first half of 2009 rather intuitively and on the spur of the moment, and they eventually ended up on the debut album, the one entitled “Blaspheme 2009”, which was released by 9th Meridian Records in 2010. Since then there have been quite a few EPs and single releases as well as three more full-length albums, so in some sense I guess you could say that PICTURE ANN has been rather productive ever since its inception.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Ugh, that is a tough one. Whenever people ask I usually tell them that the music is a mixture of doom metal, ambient, black metal, and dungeon synth, but I have no clue whether that is an appropriate description or not. I have encountered people who have labeled it black ambient rock, but what the fuck does that even mean? It is raw, unfiltered, and honest music straight from the heart. Music for moody suckers, in other words. The bands that have inspired me the most in terms of coming up with ideas for PICTURE ANN are Black Sabbath, Burzum, Ulver, and Forgotten Woods, but Wongraven, (early) Mortiis, Taake, Christ Inversion, Venom, and Gehenna have also inspired me greatly.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
They ought to check PICTURE ANN out simply because it is emotionally charged music that sounds vastly different to the majority of run-of-the-mill bullshit releases that are constantly flooding us all. Whether you are into black metal, doom metal, (dark) ambient, experimental music, or dungeon synth, I dare say that at least some of those sickening tunes of mine will appeal to your warped mind. However, you need to approach it all with an open mind!

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
4 full-length albums and a bunch of singles, EPs, and split releases have been vomited forth so far, and there is more to come. My releases have mostly provoked some pretty strong reactions, both positive and negative, which is exactly what I am aiming for. None of that mediocre shit. People either love or loathe PICTURE ANN, and that’s the way it should be!

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
No, I never perform live. Given that I am the only individual behind PICTURE ANN, performing live is totally out of the question. Involving more people always results in more problems and headaches. No thanks, I will stick to recording stuff at home and then simply releasing it. Nothing more than that, really.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
They should know that PICURE ANN defies and transcends conventional songwriting and song structures. It aims for something else, more specifically something otherworldly, moving, and hypnotic. In some ways it may come across as minimalistic, but if you listen closely you will notice and pick up on all the nuances, subtle variations, and delightfully wicked stuff that lie hidden underneath the surface. PICTURE ANN is unconventional and poses a challenge. A different beast altogether. It will move you, but the question is how it will move you.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
I am currently writing material for an EP that will be released in 2017. Actually, I just wrapped up the mixing of another EP that will be released in 2016, so I guess you could say that there are two EPs on the horizon.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
