Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band was founded by Gabe Tachell who plays guitar and sings. He began by recording the first album himself in 2011 at his home in seattle. He studied audio engineering and worked in a studio before finishing the album. He has a pretty diverse background, having been raised by opera singers, he lived in new york, germany, england and seattle. He met guitarist Alex Smolin in 2013 who was interested in helping him start a band. They recruited Gabe’s friend James Porter on bass, and eventually found Carlos Delgado to play drums. Carlos is still an active member of Inferion, and has played with many bands over the years including Death Crowned King. Alex previously played in local band Metameric, and James has played with a variety of local bands, most recently Ideofone.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Progressive Death Metal is the first style that comes to mind, but many of our songs are hard to classify. Biggest influences are Opeth, Enslaved, Devin Townsend, Dan Swano and Between the Buried and Me.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because our music is unique, both heavy and catchy without being poppy or trying to sound mainstream. It’s epic, brutal, but not too brutal, with pretty acoustic parts thrown in the middle of songs.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
The first release wasn’t promoted at all because Gabe didn’t have a band or any knowledge of how to promote his music. Once it started being performed live 3 years later it has been received quite well locally and has been reviewed by a few websites/blogs. Our second album has gained alot of anticipation by friends and fans now so hopefully it will get more attention.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yes, we have played all over Washington state and opened for major touring acts including Sepultura, Insomnium, Arsis, Destruction, and Omnium Gatherum. Touring hasn’t been possibly yet for financial and scheduling reasons, but hopefully soon.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
They should know that this band is led by a creative and prolific singer/songwriter/multi instrumentalist with an unusual musical background, a very convincing metal scream, a nice clean voice and an innate ability to play complex guitar rhythms while singing simultaneously. The momentum will only increase with this band and given enough exposure they will undoubtedly appeal to the cult-like fan bases of artists like Opeth and Devin Townsend.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We’ll be playing a release show around the album release date and some other shows in the northwest and possibly vancouver b.c.
