Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Necrol - Secrets She Kept was started in 2001 by myself and for a time I was the sole member. In 2002 I recorded the 3 song demo "Symphonies of Eternal Suffering and Damnation" performing all instruments/vocals myself. In 2005 Morbid Souls Music picked "us" up for our next release "Requiems to Midnight, Woe", which I also performed all instruments/vocals for. Shortly after that release in the same year a full lineup was found and we immediately began performing live and touring in support of "Requiems...". After about 5 years of touring/writing/and lineup changes the band entered Hollow Studio in NY and began recording our latest album "La Fin Absolue du Monde" with myself on guitars/vocals, D. Judas on bass, and Mike Heller of MALIGNANCY/SYSTEM DIVIDE on drums. Since then the band has had another lineup change and has been playing live in support of the album with myself (Necrol) on vocals/guitar, Satorn on bass, and Tzelmoth on drums.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Necrol - Technically the band would be considered "black/death". But I like to emphasize the fact that we're just and "extreme metal" band. As far as influences go, that really varies. Each album sounds different than the last so different things influence each album. And different things from different bands infuence us as well. I cant really name any one band that has had any direct infuence.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Necrol - SSK has something for everyone. And that is meant very literally. The band is heavy black metal. We have the themes and the imagery of black metal and the brutality and production of death metal. We also like to think highly of our actual song writing. Most bands nowadays seem to just cram as many riffs into each song as they can or they are extremely repetative. SSK is not that. There is a flow to all of our songs and I think that is pretty unique right now.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Necrol - So far the band has released one demo (Symphonies of Eternal Suffering and Damnation - self released 2002) and two full lengths. "Requiems to Midnight, Woe" in 2005 through Morbid Souls Music and, our newest, "La Fin Absolue du Monde" through Metal Messiah Records. The 2002 demo was received fairly well in major publications and zine reviews. As was the "Requiems... " release. That one seems to have been a pretty big deal, as we still get people requesting songs from that album live and Im always getting asked about it. The newest album "La Fin Absolue du Monde" is still very new but so far the reaction has been really good. Definitely happy with it so far.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Necrol - SSK does play live. We've been playing as a full band and touring the US since 2005. Crowd response is almost always great. We've always been the band that everyone closes the gaps for. But its always a surprise at shows. Different states/cities bring different things.
What sould labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Necrol - SSK is a very hard working band. Lots of sacrifices have been made, and are currently being made, and will continue to be made if necessary, to continue to promote and tour as much as possible to support our releases. Everything we do is DIY, and again, we work hard. SSK is an investment. We're a machine really. A machine that keeps on going no matter what. Musically the band is ever evolving and pretty original, from what I know of. Especially in the USA. There arent many bands like us, especially in the black metal scene. Only a handful.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Necrol - Plans for the near future are always to play more shows and to tour and promote. Keeping the name out there and relevant. Those are always current goals.
