Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
At the end of 2014, the band The Anthagonist was born in Pontevedra (Spain). This is the way it grew: Archer and Adrián knew each other because they had played together in Nihil, a Death metal band with whom they edited in 2013 "Nights of Silence". Adrián and Archer had been thinking about the idea of forming a Brutal death project. Adrián met Zoilo when he recorded in Zoilo Unreal Studios "Amnesia", the first work of Brutal, another of his bands. Adrián and Archer became interested in Zoilo´s band Unreal Overflows and in his work as a musician. They proposed him to join their project. At that moment, they decided to call the group The Anthagonist and started to work in some songs. After a whole year preparing their first EP in Zoilo Unreal Studios, place that has became the studio of the band, they recorded "When bloody sunset arrives" at the beginning of 2016. The Anthagonist has been created as a studio band, but the possibility of playing in live isn´t rejected. The idea for the future is to continue creating and to prepare another album.
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Our music is a strong brutal death metal inspired in Egypt. We are influenced by other styles such as black metal and our biggest inspirations are the slow, heavy and harmonized riffs of Nile, the aggressive voices and speed of Behemoth and Hate and the greatness of some parts of Septicflesh.
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because our music is achievable for any brutal death lover, because we offer a thematic album (we tell a story throughout the songs) and because its composition and sound may surprise you!
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
For the moment we have only presented the band on social medias and we have shared there some song samplers and some videos about the recording process. We are very pleased with the acceptance of the public. Even though the album isn't published yet, we have received messages from people who are eager to listen to the album. That's such a good motivation!
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
From the beginning The Anthagonisth was conceived as a studio band: no shows, no rehearsals... We compose and we play in our studio: the real hapinness! (laughs). We are very happy with this choice but the possibility of playing in live in the future isn't totally rejected.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We have our own recording studio where we can experiment, create, compose our music and search and define our sound thanks to Zoilo. Besides being one of the members of the band, he is also the sound engineer.
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
For now, enjoy “When bloody sunset arrives”... We are very proud of it. Now it's time to wait for the opinion of the people. We must keep working to grow up and create a second album.
