Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Absolutely! The four instrumental members of Torrefy (Adam, Ben, Simon and Dan) all used to jam regularly, until their music began to become more organized and concise, leading them to write songs rather than just impromptu musical odysseys. After they played a couple shows as an instrumental heavy metal act, I got to see them and went back to their jamspace to hear them some more and have some drinks. This lead to me showing interest in trying out and them encouraging me to do so. We played our first show as a complete band on the New Years Eve of 2012, and have played countless since. Working our way up from basements and garages to festivals and theaters has been a fucking awesome journey!
How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We are mainly a hybrid of Thrash, Black, and Death Metal with interludes and segments all across our songlist that borrow from and pay homage to a multitude of genres. We take influence from many of our favorite bands, such as Skeletonwitch, Immortal, Sepultura and Witchery
Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because we have a little bit of everything for everyone. Need some triumphant galloping power riffage? Got ya covered. In more of a mood to brood and spend the night in darkness contemplating the overwhelming pointlessness of existence? Oh yeah, we got that. Perhaps you just want to Thrash out to high pace down and dirty speed metal, trust me, you’ve come to the right place. Our eclectic but extreme sound is something you have to hear to understand and appreciate.
What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
We have released two physical albums across multiple outlets online such as iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and Bandcamp. Both releases were received very well. Multiple reviewers praised the music for its unique take on the Thrash sound, and noted the blend of coherence and intensity for a very extreme experience. In particular our latest release “The Infinity Complex” has been described as a massive leap for the band from an already formidable and appreciated debut release.
Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Playing live is our favorite aspect of the band life. We have played festivals in Canada such as Armstrong Metalfest and Modified Ghost Festival in Vancouver, as well as competing in the Waken Metal battle, in which we made it through to the semi-finals. Locally we try to play a show at least every 2 months, and always have a blast with awesome attendance and attitude from the audience. I have heard it said about us multiple times that regardless of the venue or turn-out we perform like we are standing in front of a hundred thousand people. Anyone who is impressed by our recorded material would be floored by our live delivery of the track.
What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
That we are consistent writers and always working on something new to release or announce to our fans. Also that we are always open for conversation with our fans! We are more than willing to hear from you and have a chat about anything from our releases to your favorite pizza joint, just shoot us a message on the Torrefy Facebook page!
What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
To get as many people acquainted with “The Infinity Complex” as possible and tour the album across The Great White North. We are already ready and willing to get to work on the production of a new album, but need to pull the reigns a back while we still tell the world about the 2nd album. We recently added a merch page to our Bandcamp and celebrated with a screamin’ deal on an album and shirt!
