Please tell us a few words about the new release, about the music on it as a whole or a few words on each track in part. How are you happy with the final release?
'Perditus et Dea' is our 2nd full length release. It is a concept album and its theme is about the myth of the Androgynous, as presented by Arisophanes in Plato's Dialogues. The story starts off just after the Androgynous was split and then it follows the two halves in their journey of reunion until they are complete once again. The title is composed from the names of the two main characters which represent a personified version of feelings and ideas.
We are very happy of how this release turned out since we learned a lot of things from making it, experimented with some new musical aspects, met a great visual artist and had a chance to work with one of the industry's great figures :-)
Last but not least, we have a video for the 3rd track called Demon Blood. Check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=taEJnmPPIj0!

How would you describe/label the music on it? Does it sounds like anything we might have heard before?
Like most bands, I think you try to stand out and identify a sound of your own, but inevitably you end up borrowing things from music that is already out there. People usually place our music in the symphonic/gothic genre and I like to always add the mention of a 'doom' influence. Some might not see it, but I think it's there. I cannot point a finger to a specific band that we might resemble, but one might find influences from Therion, Flowing Tears, Swallow The Sun etc.

Where was it recorded and how much time did it take you to record it? Any interesting stories from the recording/producing the material?
We started recording the album in April 2014. We did the guitars and bass at my home studio and from June to August we recorded the drums and acoustic parts at Luna Studios in Cluj. The mix and master, performed by Hiili Hiilesmaa (known for working with HIM, Apocalyptica, Swallow the Sun, Lordi etc.) was done between September and November. This final process had a special feel to it since we had a great interaction with Hiili, who is just a wonderful person to work with.

What can you tell us about the cover artwork? Is there a link between the artwork and the lyrics? What are the topics of your lyrics?
The cover and entire artwork were done by Bogdan Pop, a visual artist from Cluj. He usually deals with the darker side of things, so he got the concept perfectly from the start. Since the album is based on a story, we had to depict this in the artwork as well. The two characters represent the two halves of the Androgynous as they become one. The first and last songs present and personify the two halves in their individual form. The other 10 songs have their own special thematic artwork that tries to blend with the lyrics to offer a more complete image of what they is trying to say.

What do you expect to gain through this release? What are the band's aims at the moment?
The only aim is to be better than ourselves really. We just want to make good music that we like and send it out into the world hoping that there are other people that might resonate with it. On the long run, we'll try to get more exposure through more gigs and more complex shows. For example, we are currently collaborating with a group called Lamia (Fantasy Fire Show). Some of its members will travel with us for the local gigs and they will add to our shows theatrical and pyrotechnical representations. We'll try to get to play at some of the bigger festivals because that's where these kind of shows have a really great impact.

Is there a special format the material is released in? Or is it released in multiple formats? How many copies were pressed?
For the moment the album is available in normal CD and digital formats. We printed 1000 physical copies.

Where and how will you promote this new release?
We are starting off with two release concerts in Romania at the end of March and in April we'll have 5 concerts through Europe. After these we're preparing another series of shows, but we still have to finalize some details. Stay in touch with our streams and find out the latest news!

Where can we order it from?
'Perditus et Dea' is available in all major digital stores. For the physical CDs check out our official website www.the-whispering-woods.com or our label at http://loudragemusic.bandcamp.com.
