Title: Does This Dream Slow Down, Until It Stops?
Label: SHOVE / Teschio Dischi / Fresh Outbreak / Ripcord / Violence In The Veins
Style: Sludge Metal
Following up to their debut album from 2020, Hymn for the Leftovers, the new material, the 4 tracks EP Does This Dream Slow Down, Until It Stops? is now released by a joint venture of 5 different labels but to be honest I don't know if this is out on another format than cassette tape, and what I got here is a CDR housed in a very nice gatefold digisleeve made on what it seems to be recycled paper and sealed with the band's sigil on yellow wax. I'm describing it in detail because it's not everyday I get such a well-cared of promo, and I really hope this is for sale, too, as it has proper market value, especially in a limited edition like the cassette.
Now getting to the music on this EP, Wojtek are one of the most brutal, abrasive, unapologetic bands of their genre I've met, the instrumental part is a fine balance between groove, oppression and outbursts of pure brutality, and the vocal part is so sharp and high-pitched, so angry and demented only fans of the genre will properly understand. There are also some fine lines of melodies at times (mostly guitar leads), passages I felt like real breaths of air while suffocating. The mostly mid-tempo delivery of their compositions (well, when they are not launched in those brutal outbursts of brutality I mentioned earlier, because then the band becomes another kind of violent beast) is also in contrast with the intensity it emanates, which is good, it keeps the listener interested, and the inserts of pure Noise effects at the end of the material is also something i wouldn't have thought of but which fits in perfectly. All in all we're treated with raw and visceral ferocity from start to finish, prepare to be shattered!
