Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Anguish Sublime is a metal band from Novi Sad, Serbia, founded as a project in October 1998, by Aleksandar Crnobrnja (guitar, songwriter) and Árpád Takács (vocal, lyrics). After 5 years of seeking members, the first line-up was finally assembled in 2003, and the band started rehearsing the repertoire. In the May 2004, Anguish Sublime self-released their first demo album named "Among the Raven Skies" consisted of 7 tracks. The promotional gig took place at "NS Riders" underground club in Novi Sad, in front of the full club.
Anguish Sublime was performing live till the end of 2007 and has performed on numerous gigs and festivals, like EXIT Fest 2007, many guitar band competitions in Serbia (won 1st place on one in 2006), “Demo Masters” competition of demo bands held by national radio “Beograd 202” - year 2005 (where Anguish Sublime took 3rd place in the super-finals), WOA Ex-Yu Metal Battle 2007 (made it to the finals), etc.
In the beginning of 2008, several members left the band, and the band struggled to maintain its live presence, by replacing the missing band members, but without much success. András Ispán Bandi joined the band in 2009 as a bass guitar player, and he remains in the line-up till this moment. Due to the problems of keeping the steady and stable line-up and other personal life issues, in the year 2011, Anguish Sublime metamorphoses back to project state, with 3 remaining band members (Aleksandar, Árpád and András). Finally, in the end of 2013, the decision is made to make harder efforts at least in the studio work, which resulted with the EP we released in May 2014, and another single in June 2014.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
It is very hard to classify Anguish Sublime’s style to one metal sub-genre. One of the main philosophies in AS music was not to be constrained by a specific genre or sound, and due to this you can find many different elements in the music we make, from acoustic, symphonic, all the way to doom metal, progressive, thrash, death and even black metal genres. That is why we like saying that we play METAL. But if it is insisted on a more defined genre, it can be classified as “atmospheric death metal”.
If we’re talking about influences, there are many bands to be mentioned, like Paradise Lost, Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Edge of Sanity, Morbid Angel, Borknagar, Bathory, Arcturus, Hypocrisy, Rotting Christ, Lake of Tears, My Dying Bride, At the Gates, ...The list can go on and on.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Since all of our material that we have released so far is free, they wouldn’t :). But if we make that question more general, to “why should a metalhead by anyone’s demos/albums?”  - the answer would be – to support that artist, to support the scene!

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
So far we released one demo album in May 2004, titled “Among the Raven Skies”, one EP in 2014, titled “Unveiling the Origin” and one single tribute cover track in June 2014, “Under the Runes” – tribute to Quorthon, Bathory. The acceptance was pretty good for all of these, and we often received good words from both fans and media.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
As I mentioned in the answer to the first question, we haven’t been active on gigs and concerts from 2008, due to various factors. But I dare to say that back in the period from 2004-2007 it was going rather well. Besides the festivals I have already mentioned above, we also participated in few band competition festivals, on one we won the 1st place, and overall reaction on majority of our gigs was very positive.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We are a band that takes our work seriously, with the strong intention to continue with all that we do and the endeavor to do it better! Anguish Sublime has over 50 songs, with only 13 of them released so far – so there’s plenty material to be expected from us!

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Our intention is to soon release another EP, which will contain 4 tracks – it will again be the mixture of old and new songs. That work is already in progress, with only vocals for 2 songs left to be recorded at the moment, so our expectation is to finish it in the first half of this year. After that we will focus on album work, which is also partially recorded. The plan is to get that release out by the end of the year, or in the beginning of 2016.
