Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Very little Metal music was broadcasted and performed in Romania in the mid 90’s and Dan Dron (guitar and vocals) strongly believed that his creative abilities would better come to light if a band was formed which will establish the new face of gothic metal in our country. In light of his desire, he formed the band Kratos in the fall of 1996, aspiring at bringing gothic style music on the Romanian stage.
The first noticeable release was “The Essence”, a demo composed and recorded in 1997. After the release of the demo, several radio and television interviews followed which led to participation in metal festivals around. The performance was awarded and applauded in local and national magazines.
By 1999 we were already a well-established and known band in Romania. It was now time for our first LP. “Looking behind the mirror…” was released in mid 1999 and immediately we started a set of tours to promote its music in Romania and abroad. Some notable events were the Tiamat opening act in 2005, 2008 Summer Nights Open Air Festival in Austria as well as concerts with Umbra et Imago, Rotting Christ and Suicidal Angels to name a few. The band also started to re-tool itself and take full advantage of the opportunities available in gothic music by introducing symphonic elements in our composition. Atmospheric passages became darker and overall the music became more incisive.
In between events we have released three singles: 2002 – Reverse Effect, 2010 – Beyond Knowing and 2013 – It’s Empty II.
Dan Dron remains the band lead and he is accounting for almost all the Kratos compositions. In ’99 Monica Barta joined the band as female vocal and since 2012 she is
also the band’s bass guitar player. 2012 is also the year when Iustin (guitars) and Catalin (drums) joined the band completing today’s Kratos lineup.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Let the audience decide that! We simply call it dark metal! It is melodic metal with symphonic elements, dynamic passages, and a bit cynical as lyrics concept, theatrical, intriguing.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Why not? A metalhead as you call it is made out of two words. “Metal” and “Head”. Being a metal fan means that Kratos will please your listening preferences. Having a head means you have a brain and our music is composed to help anyone discover their inner consciousness. So it’s a perfect match for a metalhead and anyone who wants to listen to music to understand its essence rather than its rhythm.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
As we answered to the first question, in ’97 was released our debut demo “The Essence”, in ’99 – our first LP “Looking Behind the Mirror…”, in 2002 – Reverse Effect (single), 2010 – Beyond knowing (single) and 2013 – It’s Empty II (single). These materials were highly rated especially in Romanian metal scene.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Even if we didn’t release a new LP since ’99, we didn’t stop playing live. We have tours in the most important Romanian & Bulgarian cities, in Macedonia, Austria and of course in Bucharest our hometown.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
It’s a competitive market out there and it hard to attract one’s attention to your music and charisma. However, we are confident in “our story” both in terms of music and concept. A special element that we use on our recorded material and also in our shows is a beautiful anvil. With a specific and very intriguing sound, it can be heard on our new album called Arlechino, which will be released on May 6th.

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
We want to promote our music and style all over the world and participate in as many tours as possible. In the near future we will make a music video from one of our songs released in the “Arlechino” album. With this occasion, we are very proud to announce that we have signed with the Finnish label Inverse Records. Additionally, the release show for “Arlechino” is on May 6th and it will be a spectacular event by performing together with a strings quintet.

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our new material is released under the Finnish label Inverse Records signature. The album will be distributed in physical format in most European countries but also in digital format on the most important digital sales places.
